Construction of Markham Vale's
largest unit completes

Henry Boot Developments Limited is pleased to announce the completion of the largest unit built to date at Markham Vale. The 479,750 unit, which is located on Markham Vale East, has been constructed for Great Bear Distribution.

Despite inclement weather delaying the ground works earlier in the year, the unit was completed on schedule in July 2016 in just 38 weeks by Derbyshire company Bowmer & Kirkland. The build has benefitted many local construction businesses, with over £7.6 million of works being awarded to sub-contractors located within a 50 mile radius of Markham Vale.

The unit, now named Constellation House, will shortly be handed over to Great Bear to fit out to their specific requirements, ready for operation later in the year. The facility will become part of Great Bear’s wider UK distribution facilities.

Great Bear are taking a 15 year lease and the investment has been acquired by M&G Real Estate in a deal arranged by JLL.

Ben Ward, Director at Henry Boot Developments, commented on the completion: –

“We are extremely pleased to announce the completion of our largest unit at Markham Vale.

The contractors worked quickly and efficiently allowing us to deliver the building to Great Bear and M&G Real Estate on schedule and on budget.

This unit will become Great Bear’s flagship distribution center in the UK and will act as a vital hub within the company’s portfolio.

Markham Vale has become a well-established and successful development. It is a central UK distribution hub and Great Bear are an excellent addition to the scheme.”

Henry Boot Developments and joint venture partners Derbyshire County Council have completed a significant amount of development to date and are continuing that success with the commencement of Markham Vale North which is 70 acres of development land. A further 12 acres of land is also available for development at Markham Vale West.

Leader of Derbyshire County Council and Cabinet Member for Strategic Policy, Economic Development and Budget, Councillor Anne Western said:

“We’re delighted to welcome Great Bear Distribution to Markham’s growing network of businesses and pleased they chose the site for their expansion which is set to create up to 400 new jobs.

“The firm will be another strong string to Markham’s bow and we’re very happy with how the site continues to grow and develop.”

Glenn Lindfield, CEO of Great Bear Distribution, commented

“We are extremely pleased with how quickly Henry Boot Developments and Bowmer & Kirkland have been able to deliver our new 480,000 sq.ft distribution facility at Markham Vale.

The bespoke unit will add a significant amount of additional capacity to the Great Bear network and with the immediate access to the UK motorway system, Markham Vale will provide us with an advantage to servicing our clients up and down the country.”
