Construction of the first building
at Markham Vale North commences
Construction has now commenced on the new 212,771 sq.ft high-tech distribution centre on Markham Vale North. It will be the first unit to be developed on the 70 acre phase of the prestigious Markham Vale development.
Henry Boot Developments are constructing the unit for German automotive aftermarket supplier Ferdinand Bilstein UK (FBUK). Once complete, the facility will be a hub for the firm’s UK distribution operations, occupying a 14.5 acre plot. Its current distribution operations in Kent and Pontefract will relocate to the purpose built warehouse at Markham Vale. The move is expected to generate an initial 150 jobs. with the potential for a further 250 jobs as part of FBUK’s planned expansion.
Ben Ward, Director at Henry Boot Developments, said
“I am pleased we have commenced construction of the 212,771sq.ft unit for FBUK. The unit is the first to be developed on Markham Vale North and will benefit from the new Seymour Link Road, which will provide great access to the M1 Motorway for Markham Vale North.
FBUK chose to relocate part of its operations to Markham Vale due to HBDL’s ability to deliver a bespoke distribution centre to meet their specific requirements alongside the excellent transport network and locality to their clients.
We have had huge success with the Western and Eastern phases of Markham Vale, and are confident the Northern Phase will continue with this, based on the high level interest received since its launch at the start of 2015.”
Paul Dodgson, Operations Director at Ferdinand Bilstein UK said:
“We are excited about being part of this high profile development. Building has now commenced at the Markham Vale site and we look forward to seeing the build completion at the end of the year.
Markham Vale offers excellent transport links for our distribution requirements, and close proximity to some of our biggest customers. The new relocation will allow us to expand our company further, offering new opportunities on a local and national scale.”
Leader of Derbyshire County Council and Cabinet Member for Strategic Policy, Economic Development and Budget Councillor Anne Western said:
“We’re delighted to see that work has now started on Ferdinand Bilstein UK’s new distribution centre at Markham Vale, bringing up to 400 more new jobs to the area.
“The site’s convenient location just off junction 29A of the M1 continues to attract local and national businesses and as a result it’s providing work for existing local businesses in the construction industry.
“Markham Vale is central to our plans to boost the local economy and it’s good to know that it’s benefitting and contributing to the national economy as well by using British steel too.”
